Subject: pcmanfm: does not start anymore
Package: pcmanfm
Version: 0.9.8-1
Severity: important

Hello,

After upgrading to 0.9.8-1 I can't start pcmanfm anymore. I tried
the panel icon (I'm running lxde), the menu entry and running it from an
xterm, but there is only a flash and absolutely no output in the
terminal.

ps aux finds one instance:

$ ps aux | grep pcmanfm
amp 25890 0.1 0.8 323072 17536 ? S 09:30 0:00 pcmanfm --desktop --profile LXDE

Since nobody else reported this it might be related to my environment,
so I used startx (x-session-manager points to /usr/bin/startlxde) to
take slim and libpam-ssh out of the equation.

Regards,
Andrei

I can confirm this bug und noticed something else. If I kill the
background process of pcmanfm, which is triggered during startup, I can
start pcmanfm.

Funny enough, on my laptop with nearly the same installation, I don't
have this problem.

I can reproduce this bug on a PC with an amd64 architecture but I have a PC with an x86 architecture and this bug doesn't appear.
I was able to launch pcmanfm with : "while [ 1 ]; do pcmanfm; done" but that kills the pcmanfm process responsible for the desktop.
To my remembrance, relaunching this process kills the pcmanfm instance launched previously.

This bug was also reported in http://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&aid=3095486&group_id=156956&atid=801864
and it is tagged fixed and closed.

The following link given by the previous bug report tells that it is caused by 2 commits related to IPC that have to be reverted.

Date: Wed, 14 Sep 2011 22:03:47 -0400
Package: pcmanfm
Version: 0.9.8-1
Followup-For: Bug #605760

I ran into this bug after installing lxde tonight, and figured out
what's actually happening. I saw the behavior you described, then ran
"killall pcmanfm". As expected, this killed the icon/wallpaper
management. Then, from an instance of lxterminal, I invoked "pcmanfm"
directly. It started normally, but didn't restart the desktop
management. Somehow, when pcmanfm is started from lxpanel via the panel
shortcut or menu item, it (re)starts the desktop management and exits
the actual file manager. It starts normally when invoked from a shell.

Inspecting the .desktop file (/usr/share/applications/pcmanfm.desktop) I
see that the actual command invoked is "pcmanfm %U", which presumably
starts the desktop-management. Maybe this needs to be moved into the
autostart configuration, and the .desktop entry should just contain
"pcmanfm"?

When will someone pull 0.9.10 from upstream?
