Subject: network-manager-kde: knetworkmanager immediately crashes
Date: Wed, 24 Nov 2010 19:51:20 +0100
Package: network-manager-kde
Version: 1:0.9~svn1175124-1
Severity: grave
Tags: squeeze sid
Justification: renders package unusable

Hi,

starting knetworkmanager from the console just gives a crash window and the following console output:
knetworkmanager(17268)/kdecore (KLibrary) kde4Factory: The library "/usr/lib/kde4/solid_networkmanager07.so" does not offer a qt_plugin_instance function.

Connecting to deprecated signal QDBusConnectionInterface::serviceOwnerChanged(QString,QString,QString)
KCrash: Application 'knetworkmanager' crashing...
sock_file=/home/hendrik/.kde/socket-yavin4/kdeinit4__0
knetworkmanager(17267): Communication problem with "knetworkmanager" , it probably crashed.
Error message was: "org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown" : " "The name org.kde.knetworkmanager was not provided by any .service files" "

When the Squeeze version failed, I tried the one from Sid (see below). Doesn't change anything.
cnetworkmanager still works (strange, it always does).

Please try the plasma widget and see if that works better.

Can it use the wireless connections as defined with knetworkmanager?
I see my network in the wireless tab but the edit button looks like for a new
connection :-(
So I created a new one, deleted the old one. It is just sitting there doing
nothing :-(
However, it recognizes when cnetworkmanager sets up the connection.
Really strange...

It should.

Tested both knetworkmanager and the plasma widget.
I can create/delete/activate connections without problems. So it is not a
general problem, thus downgrading the severity to important.

Might be a problem of and existing config file.

Please try with a fresh account

So apparently plasma widget does not crash. If you have other problems with
it, check existing ones [1] and feel free to report a new bug. The tray
application has been removed from sid/wheezy.
