My understanding is that MT support will be added to the regular evdev
and synaptics drivers (and the X protocol). Does this driver have any
sort of future at all?

I didn't know this. Thank you.
( maybe this ? http://cgit.freedesktop.org/~cndougla/xf86-input-evdev/ )

This driver is necessary in new Macbook / Macbook pro.
This will not be necessary if xorg 1.8 or 1.9 is in unstable, and the
evdev driver who
supported MT comes to be usable.

Do you know whether multitouch in latest xf86-input-evde is already usable ?

Best regards,
  Nobuhiro

Yeah, IIRC there are various proposals floating around.

multitouch in XI2 will probably have to wait at least for xserver 1.11.
Driver support likely at the same time. Apps/toolkits, OTOH, I have no
idea. I'm not sure what sort of kludge xf86-input-multitouch is using
to get MT data to clients. Maybe it doesn't, and just handles gesture
recognition in the driver?

Julien

I see.

xf86-input-multitouch use mtdev library[0].
This library get kernel MT events and converts to protocol of typeB.
I already ITP mtdev and this is in new queue.

BTW, xf86-input-multitouch works in my environment.
I want to maintain this till evdev which supported multitouch is
installed in Debian.

Best regards,
  Nobuhiro
