Package: php5
Version: 5.3.3-2
Severity: important
some time ago i installed php5-fpm from experimental, it works great with
NginX.
in a upgrade, i saw that the package doesn't exist anymore, it was not builded
in the version -2 of php5 5.3.3-2 but it did exist in 5.3.3-1
please build that package, at least in experimental. It is part of the new PHP
version, is not an added patch anymore
In http://www.php.net/archive/2010.php#id2010-07-22-2 you can see a line in the
section:
Key enhancements in PHP 5.3.3 include:
....
Added FastCGI Process Manager (FPM) SAPI.
....
thanks!

How on the earth is this severity important? Experimental is just what
it is - the experimental. You should not rely on it for anything but
experiments.
Anyway... php5-fpm will be added to unstable after squeeze release
again, but right now it just didn't have enough testing to go to next
stable.

sorry if i misunderstand the severity level, at least for me it was
important, and the other levels of severity doesn't seems to reflect the
importance which represents "for me" to have such a package in an
experimental / unstable state.
wishlist doesn't seems to be the right severity when i found such a
package doesn't exist anymore, as the package already existed before.
Now, according to your point of view, i agree that such level of
severity is according to the needs.

what i was asking was not to put php5-fpm into squeeze, of course it
will not have enough testing, but what i am asking is to have such
package in experimental/unstable, so the community can test it and
report bugs for inclusion on the next testing period of Debian.

You had described the reason for not including php-fpm just in the
first sentence:
> Since 5.3.3. fpm is integrated into main php.
And as I said before (and it's logged under the #603174 bug):
> Anyway... php5-fpm will be added to unstable after squeeze release
> again, but right now it just didn't have enough testing to go to next
> stable.
> So, if we have php 5.3.3 *without* fpm, it effectively means that php in debian is crippled?
That's a nonsense, and you knew it when you wrote the email. The way
of exaggerating anything isn't a really good way how to achieve
anything. Please don't do that. It just add unnecessary stress on the
PHP maintainers.
> What could be possible rationale for removing features from upstream?
Sorry, but this is just pure demagogy. There is a zillion of features
which we don't enable in upstream php. Again please don't do that.

This was a request from the release team that didn't want too much
change between php 5.3.2 and the new 5.3.3.
BTW, waking-up so late on this issue, and so close from the release of
Squeeze, and without reading what has been already said about it, seems
a bit ... hum ... inappropriate at least! :)
If you are searching for a solution on how to do safe executions of PHP,
by the way, I would suggest you to use SBOX. It does safe chroot,
setlimits and setuid before executing (of course, you need a working
environment in your chroot...). I'm currently working on a new version
that makes it possible for sbox to find the PHP interpreter without
having to play with binfmt_misc, and it's been already working
experimentally. If you care, you can clone:
http://git.gplhost.com/sbox.git
I've just finished adding the support for Apache SetEnv directive, so
that any variables in /etc/sbox.conf can be overwritten on a per-vhost
basis. Oh, and it's also working for python and perl cgi scripts! :)
I think the above is a way more safe than using fcgid, even though it
might not perform as well (this would have to be benched, I'm really not
sure).

I did some googling - "php fpm debian", but didn't find any reasonable
links. Perhaps, someone knowing could/should provide link in this bug?
