I might be mistaken, but this sure sounds like a corrupted dpkg
database. Could the dpkg maintainers confirm and, if appropriate,
reassign the bug?

It's not a corrupted database, it's a bug in dpkg (already fixed). See #594167.

Giorgos, you should upgrade dpkg to version 1.15.8.5 to get rid of the
useless warning.
