Debian, Ubuntu, openSUSE or who want to have much better experiences in

Sorry, I absolutely don't get the concept. In particular, how will
lazyscripts help Debian users installing SuSE?

What sort of "scripts" and "packages" are installed by "lazyscripts"?
are they installed at the systme level or in the user directory?

From the homepage, it looks like it's a tool to help Taiwanese people to
get a working, localized environment. Is that so? In that case both the
short and long description are misleading: non-taiwanese people won't
get that it's not for them, and Taiwanese people won't get that it IS
for them.

Best regards, Thibaut.

PS: also presumably not mandated by the Debian policy, it would be great
to have at least a couple of sentences in English on the page pointed to
by the "Homepage" field of your ITP.

Apart from the spelling errors, reading this description I still have no firm
idea of what this package does.

This seems to be a very taiwanese centric package to increase experience
of
a.) chinese speaking users who need some special settings before
Debian is really usable (yes, our installer sucks here)
b.) install a whole number of third party packages/software

For the first point you really want to change the name, lazyscripts is
sure not going to win anything. And even more you want to adjust the
description to actually state what its doing and what it is for.

The second means it has to end up in contrib.

Also reading the news page, im not sure if i would want the script on my
system, i think it should be hilighted that the first step this
scriptset i doing is to download a whole bunch of scripts from the net
to execute them. Unless you disable that by default, shipping them all,
and make it an option.
(Looking through the scripts is also pretty scary, with all the apt-get
-y --force-yes, su/sudo to modify the system in sometimes pretty scary
ways and all without any error handling. Have a single command go wrong
- it doesnt care, it goes on, potentially killing the system.

Also, many echo statements that output chinese only text, you might want
to provide some english texts too or expect a good set of confused error
reports :) At least if you intend to have that in Debian and as such for
all of our users.

Hi there,

Jon Dowland wrote:

I was at the "Hacking Thursday" of the "Shanghai Linux User Group", and
I was trying to show "Billy Zhe-Wei", a Taiwanese living in Shanghai,
how he could package his application in Debian, and why he needed to
fill an ITP.

Unfortunately, his laptop couldn't connect to the WiFi there (for a
weird reason that we didn't find out). So I used the "--email=" of
reportbug on my laptop, but as I have set DEBFULLNAME in my environment,
and I dind't use --realname=, so my name went in, instead of his. That's
just a mistake I did, which I didn't see, because in the editor, you
have the Owner: field that is correct (see the deceptive text below).

> Are you the upstream author?

Billy Zhe-Wei Lin 林哲瑋 <billy3321@gmail.com> is the upstream author.

This is exactly what I told Zhe-Wei tonight when reading his short
description. When I first saw his python GUI, I thought it was a
replacement for the "Ubuntu software center" in a way faster. It seems I
was wrong, but I discovered it after sending the ITP with him.

What his package does is things like downloading unofficial packages at
once with wget, and some dpkg -i of the .deb. He showed me some examples
with some fonts packages. Now that I understand this, I think it's a bit
silly, as packages should go in Debian directly, and we have
dependencies if we wish to pull more than one package at a time. It
could still be cool for non-free stuff though. And I think that his tool
can do a lot more (it does a lot of scripting).

Note that this is just a kind mentoring process, as Zhe-Wei is really
willing to learn. So please do not care too much about this. :)

After installed a whole new system, Lazyscripts can help you to tune your
system, such as
install package, or modified some config files....

This guide shows the sort we get the scripts.
http://github.com/billy3321/lazyscripts/blob/master/docs/Script_pool_developer_guide_enUS.txt

We use the security system of git and github to make sure the scripts only
can be modified by Script pool mantainer.

Lazyscripts now support multi-language. But we still need more developer
help us to imporve it.
Our developer are almost in Taiwan and China, that's why the zh_TW and zh_CN
support are better
then others.

The original goal for lazyscripts is use for new users, or user who usually
reinstall there system.
Geeks always has a lot of scripts to config there system, and we hope
new users can enjoy the convenient but without any mistake.

We hope can make the developer and users more close.

The script quality is control by script maintainer.
Our script pool has a stable branch, and all the script for users will on
stable branch.
Script pool maintainer will make sure the script can work, and can't not
damage the system
before put the script to stable branch.

And we use the github system to keep the scripts only can be modified by
script pool maintainer.

I have no idea what are these talking about?
Lazyscripts are support multi-language now, for now we support English,
Chinese Traditional and Chinese Simplified.

retitle 596229 RFP: lazyscripts -- A stupid scripts management tool and non official package installer
noowner 596229
thanks

Hi,

This is an automatic email to change the status of lazyscripts back from ITP
(Intent to Package) to RFP (Request for Package), because this bug hasn't seen
any activity during the last 6 months.

If you are still interested in adopting lazyscripts, please send a mail to
<control@bugs.debian.org> with:

retitle 596229 ITP: lazyscripts -- A stupid scripts management tool and non official package installer
 owner 596229 !
 thanks

However, it is not recommended to keep ITP for a long time without acting on
the package, as it might cause other prospective maintainers to refrain from
packaging that software. It is also a good idea to document your progress on
this ITP from time to time, by mailing <596229@bugs.debian.org>.

Thank you for your interest in Debian,
