In a computer whitch broken ACPI (IBM ThinkPad T20), if you use
'hal' kernel crash.

In FreeBSD I have the same problem. The solution is compile the
kernel whitch APM opción.

The kfreebsd-image-7.3-1-486 package have the same problem.

Could you try with kfreebsd-image-8.1-686 instead? A lot of thinks have
changed there.

	kfreebsd-image-8.1-686 have the same problem.

In FreeBSD I had the same problem. ACPI do not work in my IBM
ThinkPad T20, only APM works.
