Package: libdrm-radeon1 Version: 2.4.21-1 Severity: important While using the free radeon driver with KMS I'm seeing huge, reproducible, memory leaks. My video card is an onboard HD 4200 (lspci attached). A consistent way to leak memory very, very fast is to fire up Iceweasel and visit this page: http://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=8991 Scrolling this page continously using KMS (modeset=1) causes 1GB of additional memory to become completely filled in 15-20 seconds. This does not happen while using UMS (modeset=0). I have reproduced this with the current 2.6.32 sid kernel and the experimental 2.6.35 kernel I'm filing this bug with. The lost memory seems to go completely to the kernel - I can't see it allocated in top or ps and restarting Xorg doesn't help at all. dmesg, /var/log/messages seem clean. free right now reports: Mem: 1928608 1143064 785544 -/+ buffers/cache: 971444 957164 But my "real" processes can't account for more than 200MB of used memory. Using 2.6.32 I was also seeing intermittent lockups (there's at least one related bug report, I can't seem to find it now), but these now seem to be gone. I was not sure whether to file this bug against this package, sorry for the possible misplacement. I'm of course willing to provide more information and testing. Just tried again with kernel 2.6.32-5 and the following packages: ii xserver-xorg-v 1:6.13.1-2 ii libdrm-radeon1 2.4.18-6 And the behaviour when scrolling the previously mentioned webpage was different. 1) When scrolling continously RAM usage (as measured in real time by gkrellm2, for example) goes up wildly, same as before. 2) A fraction of a second after the scrolling stops RAM usage goes down noticeably, perhaps even back to baseline. 3) After trying this a dozen times my system completely hanged. I had to reset it (didn't try magic SysRq). I forgot to mention that, both now and before, scrolling is slow (but just on the sites that trigger this issue) and lines get sort of messed up during it. Just chiming in to let you know that I've just compiled and installed 2.6.36-rc3 from upstream and the leak is definitely still here. I also added/disabled/toggled several driver settings (AccelMethod, ColorTiling, etc.) in my xorg.conf file without noticeable effects on either the visual artifacts or the memory leak.
