Severity: important
mysql-gui-tools is EOL upstream:
http://dev.mysql.com/support/eol-notice.html
Please replace mysql-gui-tools with mysql-workbench and have
mysql-gui-tools removed from Debian squeeze.

I noticed this bug when filing a bug for CVE-2010-4177 and CVE-2010-4178.
Raising severity so that it gets checked whether we want to keep
supporting it for Squeeze and whether alternatives exist.
(I don't have any opinion on it myself).
Cheers,
Moritz

Unfortunately there isn't really a good replacement for it in squeeze,
except maybe phpmyadmin but that isn't really a desktop client.
I'm personally using mysql-workbench packages manually built from the
pkg-mysql packaging in their SVN repository. Hopefully the team will
upload it to Debian soon and maintain backports post-squeeze.

Ok, downgrading again. It should be removed for Wheezy, then.

Package: mysql-gui-tools
Followup-For: Bug #584987
I'll upload mysql-workbench package on the weekend. There is really no
reason to try to fix these old gui tools, considering most of these
FTBFS bugs will be in the patched and obsolete version of in-tree
gtksourceview.

FYI, there's already an ITP for that[1], with some comments worth
reading, even if the work on it seems to have stalled[2].

Now that mysql-workbench has entered Debian[1], it is finally time to
remove mysql-gui-tools from Debian.
It is RC-buggy, EOL upstream since before squeeze was released and is
obsoleted by mysql-workbench, which was recently accepted to unstable.

Note that the package(s) have simply been removed from the tag
database and may (or may not) still be in the pool; this is not a bug.
The package(s) will be physically removed automatically when no suite
references them (and in the case of source, when no binary references
it). Please also remember that the changes have been done on the
master archive (ftp-master.debian.org) and will not propagate to any
mirrors (ftp.debian.org included) until the next cron.daily run at the
earliest.
Packages are usually not removed from testing by hand. Testing tracks
unstable and will automatically remove packages which were removed
from unstable when removing them from testing causes no dependency
problems. The release team can force a removal from testing if it is
really needed, please contact them if this should be the case.
We try to close Bugs which have been reported against this package
automatically. But please check all old bugs, if they where closed
correctly or should have been re-assign to another package.
Thank you for reporting the bug, which will now be closed. If you
have further comments please address them to 584987@bugs.debian.org.
