Severity: normal

Comparing with another system where numpy works, I noticed that the "alternative" for libblas.so.3gf hasn't been set up:

sascha.silbe@xo15-minimal:~/src/measure$ ls -l /usr/lib/libblas.so.3gf
ls: cannot access /usr/lib/libblas.so.3gf: No such file or directory
sascha.silbe@xo15-minimal:~/src/measure$ ls -l /etc/alternatives/libblas.so.3gf
ls: cannot access /etc/alternatives/libblas.so.3gf: No such file or directory
sascha.silbe@xo15-minimal:~$

There are no outstanding configurations:

sascha.silbe@xo15-minimal:~/src/measure$ sudo dpkg -a --configure
sascha.silbe@xo15-minimal:~$

dpkg.log also shows nothing unusual:

sascha.silbe@xo15-minimal:~$ grep blas /var/log/dpkg.log.1

Unless somebody else encountered it as well and has more logs that show what happened, we can probably close this bug (even though it isn't really fixed).

Well, I think the best here is to reassign this bug to libblas3gf: its
maintainer can probably help you identify why the alternatives were
not created.

Seems like running

solved the problem. It may be the case that all other ImportErrors
of libblas.so.3gf can be solved by creating symlink.

I cannot reproduce your problem.
sudo apt-get install -t unstable mnemosyne

$ ls /usr/lib/libblas*
/usr/lib/libblas.so.3 /usr/lib/libblas.so.3gf

Anyway this should fix your problem:
$ sudo apt-get install libblas3 --reinstall

Can you confirm?

Subject: libblas3gf: Bug fix of darkesthan (#29) works
Date: Fri, 8 Jun 2012 15:22:29 +0200
[Message part 1 (text/plain, inline)]
Package: libblas3gf
Version: 1.2.20110419-3
Followup-For: Bug #581412

The bug is still there. For example, I got the error, when I import numpy
in python.

Nevertheless, the bug fix provided by darkesthan (message #29) works (i.e.,
creating
the symbolic link).
The reinstall of the package does not solve the problem at all (as in the
package in sid,
there is not the file libblas.so.3gf).
It should be added directly in the package, so that the error is solved.

It is the case, it is done by the update-alternatives mechanims in the

I tried that before looking for another bugfix/workaround - as it was
written in one of the previousresponses to this bugreport that
reinstalling helps.
I did run $ sudo aptitude reinstall libblas3 libblas3gf
but that didn't help and this is the reason why I tried making symlink
by hand (which actually solved the problem at least for me). I will check
the other day in QEMU if I can find a sure way to trigger the bug.
It is [not so] funny that yesterday mnemosyne was running properly, but
today I had this bug.

Luckily I still had logs from today morning upgrade:
Setting up libatlas3-base (3.8.4-5) ...
update-alternatives: using /usr/lib/atlas-base/atlas/libblas.so.3 to
provide /usr/lib/libblas.so.3 (libblas.so.3) in auto mode.
update-alternatives: warning: skip creation of /usr/lib/libblas.so.3gf
because associated file /usr/lib/atlas-base/libblas.so.3 (of link
group libblas.so.3) doesn't exist.
update-alternatives: using /usr/lib/atlas-base/atlas/liblapack.so.3 to
provide /usr/lib/liblapack.so.3 (liblapack.so.3) in auto mode.
Setting up libatlas3gf-base (3.8.4-5) ...

Maybe this will help.

Have a nice day,
darkestkhan
