Hi,
the current version in Debian unstable has a known issue with writing metadata to images from some Nikon SLRs. Please update libexiv to current version from trunk, as suggested in https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=218633#c10.

Thanks in advance!
Kind regards,
Michael

Michael,

Thanks for hunting this issue down.

You don't need to close the digikam issue, as we can link one bug as blocking
another issue and this will show up in digikam. Anyway I have now flagged
this report as affecting digikam, so it will show up in the Debian digikam bug
list.

I did a bit of work with the same issue earlier and Forwarded upstream here:
http://dev.exiv2.org/issues/show/677

I am a little hesitant to pull trunk into Debian as we don't know what it does
and doesn't fix and trunk is generally more unstable.

Andreas was talking about releasing 0.20 earlier and I would prefer to await
an upstream release instead of pulling single patches from upstream.

Andreas. Any ETA on 0.20?

Mark

Hello Andreas,

is there any new information available about a release date of bug 677? As you
know, there's an open bug in Debian, waiting for a new release
(http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=579835).

Thanks in advance!

@Mark: Would it be possible to patch Debian's archive with the fix of this
bug, at least in experimental?

Kind regards,
Michael

A release is overdue, I know. I wanted to finish an outstanding issue
with the new Sony makernote support and release before my leave early
June. But that date is approaching fast. So if I manage to find the
time in the next few days I'll release head. If not, I'll release a
revision before r2037 (which includes #677, but not #668 and the Sony
makernote).

Michael,

The two are not necessarily related; digikam new version and exiv2 fix.

I have requested approval to upload exiv2 0.20 to unstable, which would fix
the Nikon regression:
http://lists.debian.org/debian-release/2010/06/msg00070.html

While I am waiting, I may just backport the Nikon fix to exiv 0.19 and upload to unstable.

Either exiv2 uploads will work with digikam 1.2 or 1.3.

The upload of digikam 1.3 is a little more problematic, it appears that digikam 1.3 will need to await the release of KDE SC 4.5, which I doubt will make it for squeeze.

Michael,

I am pursuing through debian-release clearance to upload exiv2 0.20 to unstable. This will enable libkexiv2 4.4, digikam 1.2, gwenview, ... to be built with the Nikon fix.

This isn't tied to KDE SC 4.5.

Mark
