Package: wnpp
Owner: Dominique Dumont <dominique.dumont@hp.com>
Severity: wishlist
X-Debbugs-CC: debian-devel@lists.debian.org,debian-perl@lists.debian.org

* Package name    : libfile-corresponding-perl
  Version         : 0.003
  Upstream Author : Johan Lindstrom <johanl[at]DarSerMan.com>
* URL             : http://search.cpan.org/dist/File-Corresponding/
* License         : Artistic or GPL-1+
  Programming Lang: Perl
  Description : Find corresponding files in the directory tree

File::Corresponding uses a configuration of groups of File Profiles to
identify corresponding files.

Using a .corresponding_file config file, and the command line script
corresponding_file, you can easily look up corresponding files.

It's obviously better if you let your editor do the tedious bits for you,
like passing the file name to the script, letting you choose which of the
corresponding files you meant, and opening the file in the editor.

That's left as an exercise for the reader (well you are a programmer, aren't
you?).

This description was automagically extracted from the module by dh-make-perl.

It is not clear to me from the package description what "corresponding"
means for this program. My immediate reaction[1] is: "Does it mean files
that have identical content?"

The CPAN pages have this:

        In a source tree it is common to have files with the same name,
        but in different places in the directory tree.

Adding some variant of that sentence to the package description would
help a lot.

[1] My immediate reaction is biased since only just this morning I made
some changes to my duplicate file finding program. :)

Subject: Draft for a better description
Date: Fri, 30 Apr 2010 14:04:40 +0200
Hello Lars

Indeed, File::Corresponding description could be improved. Here's what I
propose for its debian package:

Description: Find corresponding files in the directory tree
 File::Corresponding is a developer tool to identify files in a
 directory that correspond together, in other words, that are related
 to each other. This "relation" is defined by a configuration file
 (.corresponding_file) that will let the user specify regular
 expressions to identify related files. Several groups of files that
 are related can also be defined in this configuration file.

Subject: Unresponsive upstream -> suggest to drop these ITPs
Date: Mon, 13 Sep 2010 14:05:52 +0200
Hello

Upstream is not really responsive in case of problem. As I do not have the
lisp and emacs skills required to maintain properly Devel::PerlySense without
upstream support, I suggest to drop this ITP.

The ITP of File::Corresponding (dependency of Devel::PerlySense) is also to be
dropped.

Unless someones complains within next week, I'll close both bugs.

All the best

As suggested before, I'm closing this bug due to lack of upstream support on
Devel::PerlySense
