True, let me fix that. Basically, modass/include/generic.mk does
something like:

KSRC = /usr/src/linux
DEB_DESTDIR=$(KSRC)/..

which stomps on cdbs's DEB_DESTDIR. As a consequence, cdbs executes:

/usr/bin/make -C build-tree/linux-gpib-3.2.11 install DESTDIR=/usr/src/linux/..

which obviously won't succeed.

>Suggestions of how to solve[1] this is of course appreciated,

Please don't count on me here, I don't know either of the packages in
question.

[BCCing bug #577321 on gpib, which can probably do without the follow-up
on this for the moment.]

This is actually a new problem.

In cdbs commit e5a26f5a7ac5344790d69a3099e08994600f1442, first shipped
in cdbs 0.4.76, there was this change in 1/rules/buildvars.mk.in:

- DEB_DESTDIR = $(CURDIR)/debian/$(strip $(DEB_ALL_PACKAGES))/
+ DEB_DESTDIR ?= $(CURDIR)/debian/$(strip $(DEB_ALL_PACKAGES))/
 else
- DEB_DESTDIR = $(CURDIR)/debian/tmp/
+ DEB_DESTDIR ?= $(CURDIR)/debian/tmp/

So DEB_DESTDIR is now getting clobbered by module-assistant. Revenge at
last! ;)

I'll try to think up a new workaround for gpib... not sure whether this
affects other m-a packages. (Do any others use cdbs?)

thanks

I'm attaching a debdiff that gets gpib to build for me - I don't have
time to test the built packages tonight, so I've not actually made the
NMU upload yet.

Mmm, that last debdiff has some lintian warnings:

So I reckon it's not quite there yet. ;)

I'm half wondering whether gpib is worth it, given the
gpib-modules-source package won't build against squeeze's kernel at the
moment (bug #550932).

I have a partial fix for this and the Squeeze / Wheezy build issue --
but it involves updating to linux-gpib 3.2.16 (and I need to add a patch
to stop the makefile creating the gpibN device nodes during build).

I could polish this up for release if anyone's interested?

Hi,

I think I have a fix for both #577321 and #550932. It involves updating
the package to linux-gpib 3.2.16, then applying several patches from the
upstream Subversion repository and rebuilding the configure script and
Automake inputs using the bootstrap script.

This took me the best part of a day to finish....

Now -- how do I go about submitting my patch to resolve these bugs?

Generally the first thing to do would be to post the patch to the bug
report and hope either the maintainer picks it up or another interested
debian developer picks it up an NMUs.

If that fails then it is possible to prepare a NMU and look for
sponsorship for it but i've never gone down that route myself.
