Isn't this already included in the stock kernel?
Or maybe it is better to wait for the next kernel
release which - hopefully - will include all the
missing bits? The drivers aren't that problematic
as the pvops dom0, right? I mean, is it worth to
create a separate package when something is already
in kernel and that something will improve to match
the to-be-packaged thing?

Not that I'm "against" or something, just... asking.

Thanks!

/mjt

Hey there Michael,

Thanks for the response!

As far as I can tell, these drivers are not in the kernel, and will not
be in the near future. These drivers are part of the xen hg repository.
I expect that I'll need to use DKMS in order to get the drivers built.
I've written up a HOWTO for doing it manually:

http://wp.colliertech.org/cj/?p=653

Cheers,

C.J.

This would be very cool but: As far as I know the existing unmodified
drivers (sometimes called PVonHVM drivers) do not work with the
paravirt_ops kernel which will be in Squeeze.

However, there is someone upstream who is working on making the PVonHVM
functionality available directly in the upstream kernel.org tree so
that, eventually, a separate set of additional drivers will not be
required.

Ian.

retitle 577124 RFP: xen-unmodified-drivers -- Kernel drivers for paravirt-on-hvm devices
noowner 577124
thanks

Hi,

This is an automatic email to change the status of xen-unmodified-drivers back from ITP
(Intent to Package) to RFP (Request for Package), because this bug hasn't seen
any activity during the last 6 months.

If you are still interested in adopting xen-unmodified-drivers, please send a mail to
<control@bugs.debian.org> with:

retitle 577124 ITP: xen-unmodified-drivers -- Kernel drivers for paravirt-on-hvm devices
 owner 577124 !
 thanks

However, it is not recommended to keep ITP for a long time without acting on
the package, as it might cause other prospective maintainers to refrain from
packaging that software. It is also a good idea to document your progress on
this ITP from time to time, by mailing <577124@bugs.debian.org>.

Thank you for your interest in Debian,
