Package: live-helper

During build live-helper keeps printing

E: Can't process file /sbin/fdisk

I don't have a fdisk and should not need it for building an iso.

Hi,

when you're building images on powerpc (all other archs don't have that
issue as there fdisk is part of util-linux which is essential), you get
a warning that fdisk is not available, whenever your config tree is
parsed. this is reasonable. since your build would fail once you build
anything but a iso image.

what unreasonable is, is, that lh currently parses the config for every
helper invocation, instead of once for a whole lh sequence. this is on
the todo and will be implemented in some time. until then, i don't
consider this to be a bug, but a cosmetical dislike of yours (that you
can easily workaround by installing the recommends of live-helper for
powerpc, gnu-fdisk).

Regards,
Daniel

It is prefixed with E: which I read as error. It is also printed in the
case when it is a non-issue which could be possibly avoided.

I believe that netboot images do not need a fdisk either.

I can understand that fixing this is not high priority as it does not
affect usability of the package.

That's exactly how minor bugs are described - cosmetic issues that do
not affect the usability of the package.

AFAICT live-helper does not even suggest gnu-fdisk so this workaround is
not that obvious.

Thanks

Michal

it's an error, but it's not a fatal one (which is why it doesn't exit 1).

it's recommending it:
http://live.debian.net/gitweb?p=live-helper.git;a=commitdiff;h=19c127c5a322e9edb7df21e139ca8ca86a18e0bd

which, apparently, and unfortunately, get's strippted out by dpkg at
package buildtime (since i'm building arch all on i386). i'll remove the
powerpc arch condition, so it will always recommend gnu-fdisk instead.
