Subject: wwwconfig-common: restart.sh does not handle Pass Phrase Dialog
Date: Tue, 09 Mar 2010 14:08:13 +0100
Package: wwwconfig-common
Version: 0.1.2
Severity: important

when installing the javascript-common package, the installation stops like this:

$ sudo dpkg -i javascript-common_5_all.deb
Selecting previously deselected package javascript-common.
(Reading database ... 16832 files and directories currently installed.)
Unpacking javascript-common (from javascript-common_5_all.deb) ...
Setting up javascript-common (5) ...
<infinite wait begin>

User has to guess that the message from apache2 asking for the Pass Phrase is printed at that point. Please leave the usual apache Pass Phrase Dialog printed.

$ sudo /etc/init.d/apache2 restart
Restarting web server: apache2Apache/2.2.9 mod_ssl/2.2.9 (Pass Phrase Dialog)
Some of your private key files are encrypted for security reasons.
In order to read them you have to provide the pass phrases.

Server www.example.com:443 (RSA)
Enter pass phrase:

OK: Pass Phrase Dialog successful.
.

Thanks

Hi Mathieu

There are two things that I'm uncertain about.

1) Why do your apache ask for a passphrase?

2) The second thing is not so much a question, but rather a statement that
 it is very hard to determine that the server actually waits for a pass phrase...
 To solve that quite a lot of custom code needs to be written... And it could
 change over time and it also depends on the restarted software.

Is it ok if I lower the severity to wishlist, as I really think it is of that form?

Best regards,

// Ola

Because I am paranoid and I setup SSL so that each time apache
restart, it request the passphrase. See:

http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.0/ssl/ssl_faq.html#removepassphrase

I saw that the script redirect everything to null. I am not sure this
always the good solution (eg. this case).

I see.

True. I'm not sure about the alternative though. If I remember correctly
I did this due to the fact that if I did not, some upgrades hanged due to
debconf.
