The package looks nice, but it to use /proc/bus/usb, which seems to be
deprecated nowadays (it isn't mounted on my system).

I haven't investigated that much, but I thought I should warn you before
you invest too much time in this tool.

Also, the package description should be reviewed. It should mention that
the tool provides low level (technical details) of the devices.

You are right! The usbfs is marked as deprecated now (I have checked it in the mainline kernel), but on my running system it doesn't (I have here a Lenny kernel).

Well, I will update the tool for supporting the new device nodes too.

Good, I will add this info too.

I will start working on the new support and report it when it's done.

Thanks,

It took some time, but now it's done: I have updated Usbview2 for supporting Libusb. In its default configuration, usbfs is disabled, but it can be enabled with "./configure --with-usbfs". Whit usbfs enabled, the user can always switch between usbfs and Libusb (dynamically configurable).

The new version '0.4a' of Usbview2 is available under the following link:

https://sourceforge.net/projects/usbview2/

Now, I would appreciate if somebody test the SW and give some feedback (change requests are welcome). On the other side, I would like to know the next steps for coming forward.

Thanks a lot,

Luis

Are not you going to package such software for Debian? So people can
provide feedback and change requests (via BTS -- bugs.debian.org) :-)
If you need a sponsor to upload the package to the archive you could
use http://mentors.debian.net facilities.

Let me know if you got any question or if you need help or review packaging.

Best wishes,

Hi,

This is an automatic email to change the status of usbview2 back from ITP
(Intent to Package) to RFP (Request for Package), because this bug hasn't seen
any activity during the last 6 months.

If you are still interested in adopting usbview2, please send a mail to
<control@bugs.debian.org> with:

retitle 572545 ITP: usbview2 -- USB device viewer with GTK+
 owner 572545 !
 thanks

However, it is not recommended to keep ITP for a long time without acting on
the package, as it might cause other prospective maintainers to refrain from
packaging that software. It is also a good idea to document your progress on
this ITP from time to time, by mailing <572545@bugs.debian.org>.

Thank you for your interest in Debian,
