Package: php-mdb2
Version: 2.5.0b2-1
Severity: important
Hi,
using php-mdb2 with php 5.3 packages breaks applications, ie roundcube wont work anymore giving the following errors:
Deprecated: Assigning the return value of new by reference is deprecated in /usr/share/php/MDB2.php on line 395
Deprecated: Assigning the return value of new by reference is deprecated in /usr/share/php/MDB2.php on line 2650
Im unable to turn off those "Deprecated" warnings and therefore the headers are already send in scripts. Maybe more info in upstream bug: http://pear.php.net/bugs/bug.php?id=16508 but the attached patch doesnt apply for me.
Greetings
Volker Gropp

Hi,
reducing loglevel in roundcube or setting display_errors to false helps a
little to not render application unusable.

Hi all, this bug still occurs. I'm using may 17 Squeeze snapshot. I can log
inside roundcube (authentication process succeed), but very few seconds
later (at first AJAX refresh) roundcube automatically log out. Roundcube log
shows same messages reported by Volker, but with slightly different line
numbers:

reference is deprecated in /usr/share/php/MDB2.php on line 393

reference is deprecated in /usr/share/php/MDB2.php on line 2647
I'm using Lighttpd web server (not Apache) with mod_fastcgi enabled.
Thank you very much.
Best regards,
Leandro

Hi,
This bug still occurs. Since i upgrade from Lenny to Squeeze, i'm unable to
login on my webmail roundcube, due to this version of php-mdb2.
I'm using Debian Squeeze, kernel 2.6.32-5-amd64. The current version of
php-mdb2 is 2.5.0b2-1.
Could you please package php-mdb2 2.5.0b3 which seems to solve this issue?
Thanks!

When you get the message "Assigning the return value of new by reference
is deprecated", you normally get a line number and a file path. Can you
provide this?

Can you please try to simply remove the "&" on line 393 and 2647, then
see if it continues to work as expected? If it does (it should), then
I'll try to find time to fix it in both SID and Squeeze.
Please let the team know so we can move forward with this issue.
