Hello, I see there are numerous bugs covering suspend, but this one seems to
be more generic. Apparently (due to battery loss) the state file in
/var/lib/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.state contained the text

NetworkingEnabled=false

which caused the network to remain in a disabled state. This didn't change
over reboot, and also isn't changeable from recent docked GUI-tools such as
KDE's control module for network-manager (which just showed "networking
disabled").

To remedy the problem, I just deleted the stale state file and rebooted.

Kind regards,

Rutger

Hi,

I have the same problem. After failing to hibernate/suspend (because of
driver issues), wireless is completely shut off and won't come on (even
after rebooting).
Your fix worked for me....thanks a lot!

Subject: [network-manager] stale state file disables networking (after suspend)

Hi!

Just stumbled over this... (hard to find this bug, when networking is
disabled btw.. ;))

After updating my Squeeze system my grub-config got messed up. (I have
a Dual-Boot system Debian/Squeeze and Ubuntu 10.04 - but the
Ubuntu-Kernel was reassigned to Debian; anyone knows if there is bug
for this - could not find one so far.)

Anyway: forgot to fix my grub.cfg before I suspended to disk. I started
up my notebook booted wrong kernel and the system stalled somewhere...
After rebooting the right kernel my network was not working anymore.
Reboot did not help.

Found this. Deleted "/var/lib/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.state" and
did a:

$ service network-manager restart

All good again. (So reboot after deleting is not necessary.)

But: The bug still persists. If the system can not get up from suspend
for any reason network-manager failes to bring up the network because
of the stalled state-file....

Regards,
 - Darsha
