We're seeing regressions in the newt frontend with the new version of the
fribidi udeb, as these screenshots show:
http://people.debian.org/~fjp/tmp/d-i/daily-borked2.png
http://people.debian.org/~fjp/tmp/d-i/daily-borked3.png

Note the line with the window title and the Go Back button.

If I build a D-I image using the fribidi version from testing, the problems
disappear.

I'm also seeing a similar problem, but outside of D-I, just with normal
package upgrades:

As you will notice, the cancel button is quite amazing.

That's debconf right ?

Both debconf & D-I use newt, am I right about this ?

Yes, that's correct. You should probably also be able to reproduce the
issue using whiptail.

Note that D-I uses cdebconf (C implementation) and not debconf (perl
implementation). That could possibly make a difference, although I doubt
it.

It's possible (and arguably sane, on the basis of defence in depth at
least) to work around this in newt. See:

I tried Ubuntu's patch right now, and the issue got fixed indeed.

So, after reading #570581, is this actually a fribidi or a newt bug ?

It can probably be argued that it's both :-)

In newt for not initializing and in fribidi for not terminating.

Yes, I think that's my feeling. Fixing either renders the other one no
longer release-critical, I think.

Upstream of fribidi does not consider this as a bug in fribidi:

So should I tag the bug against fribidi package as wontfix & close it ?
