Package: xserver-xorg-video-radeon Version: 1:6.12.4-2 Severity: important Version 6.12.4-2 16-bit colour gives a green tint to the screen, slight fuzziness to the panel and overall very dim display. Tested on M64 with both LCD panel on laptop and on external VGA LCD Panel, same result. Changing to the console from X keeps the green dim display, making reading the text on a black background very hard indeed. There is no issue at 24-bit colour, however, at this depth I have don't have enough video RAM to allow acceleration, making it painfully slow to use, the main reason for using 16-bit. First I have the same problem since my last update. I did not update until some time but I can try to find the exact update that cause problem if necessary. As I'm low in memory too, I use 16 bit display, but currently it gives the pale-blue look. The hardware cursor is with the good colors. I do not really know where to start to find the bug, so feel free to ask any information. I tried to use an empty xorg file but it goes directly to 24 bits. I also have the dim green-tinted display in 16-bit mode. Seems to work fine in 24 bits but Flash video plays poorly in 24-bit mode which is why I prefer to use 16 bits. Versions prior to the upgrade the week of Jan 15 2010 worked normally in 16-bit mode. I have xserver-xorg 1:7.5+1 and xserver-xorg-video-radeon 1:6.12.4-2. My video card is a Radeon Mobility 9200. Same regression for me, notebook is fujitsu p1120, video card is reported as ATI Technologies Inc Radeon Mobility M6 LY. Everything is dimmed and the color is definitely broken, looks like it was been repacked from R5G6B5 to R8G8B8 without scaling it, so 11111 111111 11111 became 00011111 00111111 00011111. I may be wrong though. Changing depth to 24 bit works for me. Sorry for not attaching any logs or configs.

This problem still appears to me with xserver-xorg-video-radeon 1:6.12.192-2 and xserver-xorg 1:7.5+6. KMS is disabled as it brings a bunch of other new bugs on my system. Will try with sid's 1:6.13.0-2 soon. Thanks, that seems to do the job. I downloaded 6.13.1-1 from unstable and now I can again use 16 BPP without the greenish tint. Further, if I deactivate KMS (modprobe radeon modeset=0), X also initialises DRI (even though it complains about this and that) and bug 587999 doesn't appear, so it's indeed only the non-DRI code it seems. Just for the record, I had the effect that areas were not recognized as newly exposed with EXA and the new radeon driver, though only with a KDE app. Switching back to XAA seems to work around that. I'll try to reproduce this and file a separate report if I get to it. Thank you for your help, I owe you a beer! Uli
