I appreciate that this package is pointless in Sid. However, it is my
hope that it be available for backports, because kernels prior to 2.6.31
lack support for recent Intel Pro/1000 PCI-Express chips like 82578DC
and 82571GB .

Ciao,

retitle 562157 RFP: e1000e -- Intel(R) PRO/1000 PCI-Express Gigabit Ethernet driver
noowner 562157
thanks

Hi,

This is an automatic email to change the status of e1000e back from ITP
(Intent to Package) to RFP (Request for Package), because this bug hasn't seen
any activity during the last 6 months.

If you are still interested in adopting e1000e, please send a mail to
<control@bugs.debian.org> with:

 retitle 562157 ITP: e1000e -- Intel(R) PRO/1000 PCI-Express Gigabit Ethernet driver
 owner 562157 !
 thanks

However, it is not recommended to keep ITP for a long time without acting on
the package, as it might cause other prospective maintainers to refrain from
packaging that software. It is also a good idea to document your progress on
this ITP from time to time, by mailing <562157@bugs.debian.org>.

Thank you for your interest in Debian,

Actually, what causes prospective maintainers to refrain from packaging
that software, is when their packaging is ignored for 14 months and then
the ticket changed from ITP to RFP.

The original packaging is still available at

http://ray.starjuice.net/e1000e/e1000e_1.1.2-1_i386.changes
http://ray.starjuice.net/e1000e/e1000e_1.1.2-1.dsc

There is NO point encouraging someone else to waste more effort on this,
when no Debian developer is interested.

Ciao,
Sheldon.

Did you look for a sponsor on debian-mentors@?

Nope. And looking at the feedback that the bug received (zero), maybe
it's pointless.

Sorry, I had a bit of a knee-jerk reaction to the state change. :-)

Ciao,
Sheldon.

How do you expect DDs to learn that you did the packaging work if you
did not follow the procedure to find a sponsor?

I don't. It's an entirely unreasonable expectation. Hence my apology
for the knee-jerk reaction.

Ciao,
Sheldon.
