`apt-get source $package/$release' and `apt-get source

I.e., whatever I do, I only get the version from unstable and a "W: ".
Commenting out "APT::Default-Release "unstable";" in
/etc/apt/apt.conf doesn't help either, neither does commenting out
all pinnings in /etc/apt/preferences.
Looking through apt's changelog, it might be related to the changes
in cmdline/apt-get.cc; or is something wrong on my machine?

Ok, on this machine (with default release set to testing) I get the
same results.
Commenting out APT::Default-Release and removing pinnings doesn't
help either.
It seems there's something broken between apt 0.7.23.1 and 0.7.25 :)
Cheers,

Hi Gregor Herrmann,
First of all: Thanks for your excellent bugreport...

Yes, these are the breakers. I have more or less rewritten FindSrc()
which is responsible for finding the correct version in apt in 0.7.25
to fix a few misbehaviors and add these Warnings about ignored
things as APT did this without a note before which was a bit
confusing - but i made two mistakes:
It does the ignoring now way to aggressive for "easy" packages.
(Easy means here: binary packages which have the same name
as their source packages as these packages doesn't have a
Source-tag in their status stanzas)
And the other problem: While it need to drop the release name if
it can't find a binary package with this information (you mentioned
already #441178 ) apt can try to find the version in the sources entries,
instead of ignoring them without a try...
A patch fixing these issues is already committed in Michaels
branch [0] and will be part of the next upload - most properly a dot-release.
Until then you can circumvent this bug for "easy" packages
by adding the --only-source flag to your apt-get source command.
(This will not work for "harder" packages as for these a binary to source
mapping is needed, but in this case you will not hit the bug...)
Season's Greetings,
David Kalnischkies

No big deal :)
Thanks for your quick and informative reply, and good to know that
it's already fixed.

Ah, I haven't used this before, thanks for the pointer!
(I resorted to dget'ting the source packages after copying the URLs
from the PTS.)
Cheers,
gregor

My own mistake. unstable src wasn't included in source.list.
closing it.

Are you sure you have the correct deb-src entries in your sources.list(.d)?
(Remember that a file in sources.list.d needs the file extension "list"
to be parsed.)
For unstable the entry should look some similar to:
deb-src http://ftp.de.debian.org/debian/ unstable main
(but your mirror will vary of course)
If so, or if you are unsure, please attach your configuration
(apt-config dump) as well as your sources.list-file(s) as at least
here in my configuration and with apt 0.7.25.2+ (which should be
identical to .1 in regards to the source command) all your commands
have the desired effect.
Best regards / Mit freundlichen Grüßen,
David "DonKult" Kalnischkies
