Package: hylafax-server
Version: 2:6.0.3-5.1
Severity: normal
The documentation to the BINDTO parameter leads to a wrong usage, as it won't bind to all
known IP addresses if you'll leave it commented.
/etc/default/hylafax
#
# If you need to bind hylafax to one address only, just uncomment
# this variable and change the value using your preferred IP.
#
#BINDTO="-l 127.0.0.1"
A netstat shows that it insn't listening on all local IP addresses.
:~# netstat -l
Aktive Internetverbindungen (Nur Server)
Proto Recv-Q Send-Q Local Address Foreign Address State
tcp6 0 0 [::]:hylafax [::]:* LISTEN
If BINDTO states to valid IP address HylaFax will listen to the right IP address as shown in netstat.
:~# netstat -l
Aktive Internetverbindungen (Nur Server)
Proto Recv-Q Send-Q Local Address Foreign Address State
tcp 0 0 *:hylafax *:* LISTEN

Message #20 received at 561253-quiet@bugs.debian.org (full text, mbox, reply):
Hello Giuseppe,
more explanations to the problem I've found and one correction to my first description.
Think of /etc/default/hylafax has the following definition:
#
# If you need to bind hylafax to one address only, just uncomment
# this variable and change the value using your preferred IP.
#
BINDTO="-l 192.168.253.5"
The BINDTO parameter in /etc/default/hylafax doesn't bind the HylaFax to listen only at the defined IP address. Instead, it will listen to all IP addresses the host has configured.
Think of /etc/default/hylafax has the following definition:
#
# If you need to bind hylafax to one address only, just uncomment
# this variable and change the value using your preferred IP.
#
#BINDTO="-l 192.168.253.5"
Then the description makes you think, that if you'll leave the BINDTO parameter commented that HylaFax will listen on all configured IP addresses. But this isn't the behaviour. It will only listen at the following interface:
:~# netstat -l
Aktive Internetverbindungen (Nur Server)
Proto Recv-Q Send-Q Local Address Foreign Address State
tcp6 0 0 [::]:hylafax [::]:* LISTEN
Because it looks like an IPv6 address schema, could it be that there's some new IPv6 behaviour HylaFax won't be capable of?
But of course, if you'll define a valid BINDTO address than HylaFax should only listen at this address and not at all host addresses as you can see here:
:~# netstat -l
Aktive Internetverbindungen (Nur Server)
Proto Recv-Q Send-Q Local Address Foreign Address State
tcp 0 0 *:hylafax *:* LISTEN
Let me know If you need more informations/explanations.
Thanks.
NicoP.

Hi Nico,
the latest hylafax packages include a rewritten code that manage how to
bind to a specific address, including support for ipv6.
Could you check if this solve the problem you reported?
Thanks,
Giuseppe
