Subject: freebsd-utils: please add kdump (ktrace is useless without it)

Package: freebsd-utils
Version: 7.2-9
Severity: normal

Please add the kdump(1) utility to freebsd-utils. This program renders
the binary log files produced by ktrace(1) into human-readable format;
I don't think it's an exaggeration to say that ktrace is useless without
kdump.

(In the alternative, please port strace to kfreebsd. ;-)

Hmm, wasn't aware of that, I've always had both on my systems. :)

In the meanwhile:
| kibi@kbsd:~$ dlocate kdump
| freebsd-hackedutils: /usr/bin/kdump

It can still be found on debian-ports:
 1. http://ftp.debian-ports.org/debian/pool-kfreebsd-i386/main/f/freebsd-hackedutils/
 2. http://ftp.debian-ports.org/debian/pool-kfreebsd-amd64/main/f/freebsd-hackedutils/

We take patches. :)

We are aware of it. In mean time, please use kdump from

http://ftp.debian-ports.org/debian/pool-kfreebsd-i386/main/f/freebsd-hackedutils/freebsd-hackedutils_6.1-3_kfreebsd-i386.deb
http://ftp.debian-ports.org/debian/pool-kfreebsd-amd64/main/f/freebsd-hackedutils/freebsd-hackedutils_6.1-3_kfreebsd-amd64.deb

We hope kdump will be buildable from freebsd-utils after
switch to 8.0 upstream series. See also
http://lists.debian.org/debian-bsd/2009/11/msg00003.html,
the netstat is now ready in our SVN ...

There's one, but it's severely hacked and out of date. I filed a bug in
strace package to make sure it's not forgotten.

kdump is present in freebsd-utils since version 8.0-6. Closing the bug.
