Subject: Sugar X cursor not used
Date: Thu, 12 Nov 2009 23:11:15 +0100
Package: sugar-0.86,sugar-0.84
Severity: normal

sugar doesn't show the custom X cursor, only the standard X11 one. There's no error message in the logs.
For sugar-jhbuild we had to set XCURSOR_PATH, but setting it (to /usr/share/icons) doesn't seem to make a difference for the Debian packages.

I'm starting to remember about this...
I've reported this bug (icon-slicer failing silently if xcursorgen
fails) to the original author (Owen Taylor), but was told we (i.e.
SugarLabs) had taken over maintenance of the package. :)
Will start poking around again.

I.e. you want me to reassign #555963 from sugar-* to sugar-artwork-*?

IIRC this list get's CCed anyway, but might be a good idea to use the
bug address so it's archived on bugs.debian.org as well.

Ah, ok.

As a Debian-specific workaround, I will make icon-slicer depend on
x11-apps containing xcursorgen. But still it should be fixed upstream -
and all the more convenient if that is... you! :-D

Whoops, my fault: I missed out that in fact you filed a bug report - and
I responded to the list directly.

Nah, not important to reassign - we maintain all packages together in
same team, and besides I don't expect this to be solved soon - thanks to
your precious help and deep knowledge on the issue ;-)

Actually that is The Right Thing - the bug I mentioned is that the build
continues instead of aborting, not that it doesn't work without
xcursorgen.

...and that _is_ a bug which should be fixed IMHO.

I am not a C coder, but it seems to just need an exit (1) line after
discovering that the command failed.
