Package: xserver-xorg-video-intel
Version: 2:2.9.0-1+exp1
Severity: normal
hello -
when using an external monitor, gnome-screensaver causes X to segfault.
using the laptop's native lcd display there is no problem.
as a workaround i can unset gnome-screensaver's "Activate screensaver
when computer is idle" option.
the following set of downgrades appears to eliminate the issue:
[DOWNGRADE] xserver-xorg 1:7.5~1 -> 1:7.4+4
[DOWNGRADE] xserver-xorg-core 2:1.7.0-1 -> 2:1.6.5-1
[DOWNGRADE] xserver-xorg-input-evdev 1:2.2.99.1-1 -> 1:2.2.5-1
[DOWNGRADE] xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.9.0-1+exp1 -> 2:2.9.0-1
thank you.

Message #10 received at 554450@bugs.debian.org (full text, mbox, reply):
Package: xserver-xorg-video-intel Version: 2:2.9.1-2 Followup-For: Bug #554450 Hello, Since I upgraded xserver-xorg-video-intel yesterday to 2:2.9.1-2 activating the screensaver makes X segfault. I can reproduce that with gnome-screensaver-command -l After that X is restarted (by gdm I suppose). IMHO this justifies making this bug rc-critical. Actually my problem was not that crtc is NULL but that the NULL pointer
dereference already happend while calculating crtc. This didn't show up
earlier as I just now compiled without -O2.

This is too hard for me. So I let this for someone with more knowledge.
While debugging I noticed that the problem isn't reliably triggered by
gnome-screensaver-command -l. From the few tries I made I think that it
doesn't happen if LVDS output is enabled or the resolution of VGA is
1024x768 (i.e. smaller than my default 1920x...).

From the few tries I made I think that it > doesn't happen if LVDS output is enabled or the resolution of VGA is > 1024x768 (i.e. smaller than my default 1920x...). In the following situations the bug occurs(-) or doesn't occur(+): (-) After login when Gnome switched to VGA:1920x1200@60Hz+LVDS:off (+) when I change display settings from above to e.g. mirrored VGA+LVDS:1024x768@60Hz side-by-side VGA+LVDS:1024x768@60Hz (+) when I change to the text console (Ctrl+Alt+F1) and back after login. (Note, in this case the LVDS display shows a mouse pointer in the center even though it's still "off" in the Gnome Display Preferences. It doesn't move when the mouse is moved.) (+) After login when Gnome Display Preferences were switched to VGA:1024x768@60Hz+LVDS:off (That is, VGA isn't changed as in gdm the setting used is mirrored VGA+LVDS:1024x768@60Hz.) This is still very annoying and I wonder if this qualifies to be rc-critical. Best regards Uwe -- Pengutronix e.K. | Uwe Kleine-König | Industrial Linux Solutions | http://www.pengutronix.de/ |

I havn't tested it yet (but I already started rebuilding the package), but just reading the changelog makes me wonder if this really fixes the problem. The Symptoms for me are that if gnome-screensaver locks the screen X reproducibly segfaults. But if I changed once to another console and back (i.e. press Ctrl+Alt+F1, Alt+F7) the problems are gone and gnome-screensaver can lock the screen just fine. So checking for crtc being NULL is right, but AFAICT it shouldn't be NULL before the console switch in the first place. I think the issue here is that the 'compat_output' points at something which doesn't have a crtc associated, and that switching the VT causes that to be re-computed and set to something which will work. > So checking for crtc being NULL is right, but AFAICT it shouldn't be > NULL before the console switch in the first place. * config/udev: fix adding unnamed devices.

* Add patch to fix Xorg build with XV disabled.
.
[ Timo Aaltonen ]
* Add 16-config-dont-filter-input-subsys.diff so for instance serial

closes: #568236).

[ Brice Goglin ]

+ Reenable RECORD extension, closes: #570680.
+ dix: try to ring the bell even if the current device doesn't have one,
closes: #564200.
* Refresh patches.
* Fix typo in xvfb-run.1, thanks Joey Hess, closes: #527490.
.
[ Cyril Brulebois ]
* Add udeb needed for the graphical installer: xserver-xorg-core-udeb.
* Version/Bump some B-D to make sure xserver-xorg-core-udeb gets its
dependencies on the (recently-added) udebs rather than on the
libraries:
- libpciaccess-dev
- libudev-dev
- libxau-dev
- libxfont-dev
* Replace 02_Add-libgcrypt-as-an-option-for-sha1.diff with
02_Add-libgcrypt-and-libnettle-as-options-for-sha1.diff so that it's
also possible to link against libnettle. Link (unconditionally)
statically against libnettle.a to avoid an extra udeb for a few bytes.
* Add nettle-dev to Build-Depends; and pass --with-sha1=libnettle for
the udeb build (and --with-sha1=libgcrypt for the main build).
* Add myself to Uploaders.
* Tweak builderstring to use the name of the person responsible for the
upload instead of an host-specific one (Closes: #574017).
