[Message part 1 (text/plain, inline)]
Package: dmsetup
Version: 2:1.02.38-2
Severity: wishlist
dmsetup conflicts with devicekit-disks, which is an indirect dependency
of gnome-core. Therefore, since lvm2 depends on dmsetup, lvm2 cannot be
installed at the same time as GNOME. This is problematic, since I use
both, as do many other people.
Please make it possible to install both at the same time, or reassign
the bug to the package that needs to be fixed to make it possible to do
so.

The cause is tracked in #545032.

Hi,
Sorry, I don't consider it acceptable to knowingly break people's
systems like that (even in unstable). As of yesterday's update I no
longer have access to my encrypted volumes (due to missing cryptsetup)
unless I remove all of gnome, which is ridiculous. I would appreciate
if you could upload a version of dmsetup without a conflict on
devicekit-disks or come up with some other non-intrusive interim
solution while you are working out the problems with it.
Thanks.

The cause _actually_ breaks users systems. So please handle #545032
accordingly.

apt never removes packages without the user asked it to do so.

i'm in the same condition with lvm + gnome
two days ago my system won't boot up hanging on "waiting root..." because
root was on lvm
it took all the morning to me to understand where the problem was!
i think this approach (declare conflict) isn't so right because it leaves a
lot of people with falling systems!
please release a new version or a patch to resolve it asap

Seems this problem in devicekit-disks and dmsetup is either resolved in
one package and waiting on action in the other, or vice versa. Perhaps
someone would like to get on and do something?

devicekit-disks 009-1 has been uploaded and fixes 545032. Please upload
a new version of dmsetup that does not conflict with devicekit-disks, or
reopen the blocking bug if it has not been fixed.

dmsetup 2:1.02.39-1, built from lvm2 2.02.54-1, does indeed version the
conflict so it only applies to devicekit-disks (< 009); thus, the
current version of devicekit-disks with the fix for 545032 can co-exist
with dmsetup.
Marking this bug as done.
