Subject: nedit: copy/paste does not work

[Message part 1 (text/plain, inline)]
Package: nedit
Version: 1:5.6~cvs20081118-5
Severity: important

Hello,

copy and paste no more works with ctrl+c and ctrl+v, also ctrl+x only
deletes the marked text. Also the copy+paste with marking text and
pasting with the middle mouse button shows a strange behavior: pasting
here only works when the text is still marked, after clicking in the
text a click with the middle mouse button does nothing. Moreover, the
cursor gets at the new position without unmarking the text, i.e. a "del"
deletes the originally copied text, not the last character. This makes
it really difficult to work with this editor, specially the copy+paste
between different windows (or even different apps) is a matter of luck.
Some times ago (unfortunately I don't know when) I didn't have these
strange copy+paste issues, but the normal behavior.

Best regards,
Simon

thanks

This bug is most likely cause by the lesstif library, therefor I
reassign it there. Are you by any chance running on a KDE system? I have
heared that the under the latest version of KDE the interaction of the
lesstif with klipper have gone worse.

In case you do, just a "might work" work-around for the time being:
configure klipper to ignore actions from nedit and allow the clipboard to
be empty:
In klipper -> Configure -> Actions -> Advanced -> Disabled Actions for
Windows of Type WM_CLASS : nedit
In klipper -> Configure -> General -> UNMARK "Prevent empty clipboard"

Or change/add the following in your klipperrc
(~/.kde/share/config/klipperrc)
NoActionsForWM_CLASS=nedit,<lots of other apps...>
PreventEmptyClipboard=false

Please report back with your findings.

Paul

I use Redhat not Debian but experience the same issue. I use KDE. Also
the problem seems to show up after using something under the macros or
tools tab. Anyways I found if you use the kwin --replace (bug fix for
window re-size issue). Cut-n-paste works again. This is not a long term
solution but could help some in the short term and may provide some more
direction on where the issue lies.
