Hi,
linsmith currently still uses libgnomeprint. However, libgnomeprint
and libgnomeprintui are going to be soon deprecated upstream. The
GtkPrint replacement (built in GTK+ itself) has been available for 3
years.
I’d like to remove libgnomeprint packages before the squeeze
release. This can only be done by getting rid of as much as possible
of the reverse dependencies.
Note that some of these packages already include GtkPrint support,
but you have to select it at compile time. Otherwise, please consider
porting to the much more modern Cairo/GtkPrint API.
As for bindings, they don’t have any reverse dependencies except
for the Python ones, so they should simply be removed ASAP.
Thanks,

Marga,
We want to remove libgnomeprint from Squeeze. Given the low popcon of the
package, can we remove this?
Cheers,
Emilio

Hi guys.
I am the original author of linsmith.
The libgnomeprint dependency was removed in the last version (0.99.21)
of linsmith (thanks for the Gentoo people for pointing this out).
What do I have to do to get Debian to
- Cc: me of problems with the package,
- To update the version - there have been more than 10 new versions!
I regularly get complaints of people using the old .7 version which had
quite a few problems. By accident, I also detected pending bugs at
Debian and Ubuntu.
I don't use either, but I suppose I could run a virtual machine to make
the packages?
Please Cc: me, I'm not subscribed to the buglist.
John

Ok. I will package this ASAP.

If you go to http://packages.qa.debian.org/l/linsmith.html in the bottom
left corner you'll see a box that says "subscribe to this package". You
can enter your email there, and you'll get mail when there's a bug.
> - To update the version - there have been more than 10 new versions!
As I said, I'll do this at once. For some reason, the automatic system
that warns about new versions hadn't warned me before.
In any case, filing a bug in the BTS asking for the new version to be
packaged, is the usual way to go when the maintainer doesn't realize it by
themselves.

Ah... A bug in the Debian system? ;-)

I already installed VMs for Ubuntu, but I'm not sure I'll find the time
to prepare packages.
Would preparing Slackware tgz's and then using 'alien' to convert
to .deb be of any help to you?
Cheers,
John

I don't think you need to worry about that. Once the Debian package is
uploaded, we can ask for a 'sync' in Ubuntu.

Not really, I'm almost done with the packaging, I'll be uploading to Debian
today or tomorrow at the latest.
