Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
X-Debbugs-CC: debian-devel@lists.debian.org

   Package name: gtk-kde4
        Version: 0.9b
Upstream Author: Yulian Konchunas <muwee@gala.net>
            URL: http://www.kde-apps.org/content/show.php/gtk-kde4?content=74689
        License: GPL2+
Description: theme engine using Qt 4 for GTK+2.x
The GTK-Qt Theme Engine (also known as gtk-qt-engine) is a GTK+ 2 theme engine
that calls Qt 4 to do the actual drawing. This makes your GTK+ 2 applications
look almost like real Qt 4 applications and gives you a more unified desktop
 experience.
 .
Please note that this package is targeted at KDE 4 users and therefore provides
a way to configure it from within Systemsettings

The description was stolen from gtk-qt-engine-kde4. gtk-qt-engine-kde4 seems
not to be really active maintained anymore. Maybe another qt engine for gtk
would be good as this could fix problems for some people (see open bugs list
of gtk-qt-engine-kde4 at http://code.google.com/p/gtk-qt-engine/issues/list ).

You can close this again as it is already available as gtk-qt-engine-kde4.

Sry for confusion, but this is another project. This is _not_
http://code.google.com/p/gtk-qt-engine/
Or is there a hidden "I want a different gtk-qt-engine-kde4" button hidden in
dpkg?

Do we really need two of them? What are the differences/advantages of
this one? If it is totally superior, can it replace the already
present one?

gtk-kde4 is maintained and different people told that it fixes different bugs
currently present in gtk-qt-engine-kde4. I am not sure about any regressions
as I could not find a bug tracker or something like this for gtk-kde4.

I don't want to kill iceweasel when I want to restart it and don't want to use
raw gtk look. Maybe to use gtk-kde4 is a good idea for me... or maybe not. If
you think different about this rfp then feel free to close it as wontfix.

Hi,

I missed the following to the RFP.
This software can also be found on kde-extras repository but I never uploaded
it (it should be outdate now). So far, I didn't find any real usage with all
the related packages like gtk-qt-engine, gtk2-engines-qtcurve, or kgtk.

feel free to continue on the packaging effort if you still want to maintain it.

cheers,

Fathi

I've uploaded gtk-kde4 to mentors.debian.net, so hopefully (sponsor needed!)
it can be included in Debian.

To answer about gtk-qt-engine, gtk-kde4 is far better: not only from the
technical aspect (better drawing of apps, even Iceweasel and probably Icedove
which look buggy with gtk-qt-engine), but it also solves #539175 (Iceweasel
doesn't close correctly and consumes 100% CPU) and is still actively
developed, on the opposite of gtk-qt-engine (last change appears to be in may
2009).

I don't know if i'm doing it right, but hope so
