Subject: Configurable persistent device names
Date: Sun, 12 Jul 2009 18:14:50 -0400
Package: live-initramfs
Severity: wishlist

Hi,

Currently live-initramfs will look for hard-coded partitions labeled
"live-rw"/"home-rw", and files called "live-sn*"/"home-sn*" for
persistent and snapshot partitions or files.

This will cause problem when trying to run/test two or more
live-initramfs based distros on the same machine. Different
debian-live based distros need different persistent devices
(partitions or files) and contents. Configurable persistent device
names is the solution.

Thanks

Hi,
this feature request should be available since at least version 2.0~a1-1.

It is implementeed that way:

You could specify "persistent-subtext=subText" as live boot parameter in order
to have live-boot (live-initramfs) to look for persistent and snapshot
partitions or files labeled "live-rw-subText", "home-rw-subText", and files
called "live-sn-subText*", "home-sn-subText*" for the snapshots.

Thanks.

Marco, could you please document this feature?
I can't find it in manpages/*/live-boot.7 yet, would be great if
documentation matches implementation. :)

It is already documented in the live-manual:

http://live.debian.net/manual/en/html/persistence.html#id2559143

I agree that when accepting code that introduces new features which adds new
configurations would be great to have those properly documented also in
manpages.

This is good but it would be great if that could be part of the
live-boot/live-initramfs manpage itself as well, as not everyone has
live-manual installed and man live-initramfs(7) used to document
this kind of stuff.
