Message #5 received at submit@bugs.debian.org (full text, mbox, reply):
Package: audacious
Version: 2.0.1-1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable
After playing an Ogg or MP3 file to the end, Audacious2 freezes. The music
stops at the end of the file; the UI is still responsive until I try to play
another file (by double-clicking on the playlist).
Wav files are fine, even 5 minute long ones.
While playing the first Ogg file, before it has finished, double-clicking on
another song in the playlist successfully changes song and plays the new
track.
I'm using the ALSA output plugin, and have the playlist visible, but that's
the only non-default setting that I'm using (having moved my normal
.config/audacious out of the way).
I can replicate this with every ogg I've tried, including those in the
wesnoth-data and wesnoth-music packages.

Message #10 received at 531835@bugs.debian.org (full text, mbox, reply):
I can provide corroboration to this. It only occurs after Vorbis encoded files
for me thus far, however, but i've not really triaged the bugs too much. Trying
to skip to the next song by bringing the main window into focus and pressing "b"
at this point totally hangs the GUI and I have to kill it manually.
Straceing the audacious process when it's hung at the end of a .ogg shows a
polling loop with these two events:
poll([{fd=5, events=POLLIN}, {fd=4, events=POLLIN}, {fd=8, events=POLLIN}], 3,
0) = 0 (Timeout)
read(4, 0x1dcfc94, 4096) = -1 EAGAIN (Resource temporarily
unavailable)
When it's got into the GUI locked state, strace shows it's hanging on a futex:
futex(0x7f14d0ebb9e0, FUTEX_WAIT, 7084, NULL
I hope this helps in tracking down where it's locked.

I can't reproduce this, or I wouldn't have released this codebase, or
uploaded it to Debian.
Please provide a copy of your ~/.asoundrc, /proc/asound/cards, etc.
The files in the wesnoth-music package work fine here, on several
different soundcards, etcetera. So really, I am unable to reproduce
this at all, period.

Hi
I came across this while having a similar issue
This is likely the same as this downstream bug
https://bugs.launchpad.net/alsa-lib/+bug/567890
which affects the alsa plugin in audacious-plugins
the problem is caused by a long standing upstream bug in alsa
https://bugtrack.alsa-project.org/alsa-bug/view.php?id=3150
when audacious is being used with the alsa plugin the main thread will
call audmad_stop which calls alsa_drain which may never return causing
the main thread to wait for the child thread forever...
its suggested in the alsa bug report that it can be worked around by
wrapping the drain call with
if (snd_pcm_state() == SND_PCM_STATE_RUNNING) {}
but it has also been suggested that as of 2010-04-23 that the workaround
no longer works...
see upstream and downstream bug reports for more info :)
