Roundcube only supports SSL wrappermode to connect to an SMTP
server. This mode (port 465) is deprecated in favour of STARTTLS on
port 587. It would be good if roundcube learnt how to do that.

Hi Martin!

Roundcube uses PEAR::Net_SMTP which should  use TLS when it is available
but only  when you request to  use authentication. There seems  to be no
plan to support TLS when not using login/password.

I reassign this bug to php-net-smtp.

Not really, until it hits stable. I don't have a roundcube test
instance.

A new release of php-net-smtp has been uploaded in sid a few hours ago.
Releases between 1.3.1 (actual testing) and 1.4.2 (sid) seems to add
more compliant support with STARTTLS.
A test mail with smtp on 587/tcp with STARTTLS only works fine.

Can you confirm that it fix the roundcube issue ?
