Hi

vmmouse_detect seems to fail finding a compatible mouse inside a kvm
virtual machine, same results on kvm 72+dfsg-5, 84+dfsg-2 and 84+dfsg-2
(always with plain 2.6.29 kvm modules) plus the patch from Thomas
Preud'homme <thomas.preudhomme@celest.fr> referenced in #515585, to fix
evdev issues. Guest (amd64) and host (i386) are current Debian sid systems.

# /usr/bin/vmmouse_detect
# echo $?

Looking at the upstream commits [1]

commit bcdec3d0cd4434770cd841c33c030e0d7203881f
Author: Philip Langdale <philipl@fido2.homeip.net>
Date: Thu Oct 23 23:35:28 2008 -0700

Remove call to iopl(). It's not portable and isn't necessary.

caught my eyes, and reverting it with the following patch seems to be
successful.

Revert upstream commit bcdec3d0cd4434770cd841c33c030e0d7203881f and re-add
call to iopl(). It may not be portable, but is necessary for kvm.

Subject: Re: xserver-xorg-input-vmmouse: vmmouse_detect doesn't detect kvm
Date: Tue, 27 Oct 2009 00:12:23 +0100
[Message part 1 (text/plain, inline)]
Hi

I can still confirm this regression in current Debian sid within kvm
(85+dfsg-4.1) or qemu (0.10.6-1) and xserver-xorg-input-vmmouse 1:12.6.5-1.
likewise reverting
	http://cgit.freedesktop.org/xorg/driver/xf86-input-vmmouse/commit/?id=bcdec3d0cd4434770cd841c33c030e0d7203881f
reliably fixes the problem for me, so vmmouse actually works within kvm/
qemu and doesn't catch the mouse pointer.

Is there any further information I could provide to get this regression
from 1:12.5.1-4 fixed?

Regards
	Stefan Lippers-Hollmann
