The package makes use of OUI listing from IEEE, I'd like to note that there's an
ongoing effort to unify the listing and ship it only once, I've CCed the
relevant bugs.

FWIW the actual status is: I wrote to IEEE asking for copyright/distribution
instructions and I'm waiting a reply.

I can split the package in a update-oui stuff and another one with the
other utils included in the EtherVendors package (this utils are
oriented to work with ethernet MACs)
This second package EtherVendors should depend on the update-oui (or
whatever) so It shouldn't contains the oui registry list.

Have you a ITP for the oui registry download/upgrade?

Best regards

This utilities are intended for get vendor info from mac, or to test
valid macs for a vendor.
Theses are very simple scripts, we use it for add info to log files,
to check if a mac especified is valid for a especific vendor...
At the moment it only contains the following utils:
 * Show the vendor from a OUI id, or from a MAC string (in various format)
 * Show all the vendor names that contains a substring
 * Show all the OUI ids valid for a vendor

Hope this info help

note that oui (the package) is supposed to contain update-oui plus a directory
where to drop parser scripts if your program needs the listing specially parsed,
anyhow a preliminary package is at
http://svn.debian.org/wsvn/collab-maint/deb-maint/ieee-data/trunk/#_deb-maint_ieee-data_trunk_

Ok, I'll remove the update option, and use the info maintained by your
packet ieee-data

noowner 522642
thanks

Hi,

This is an automatic email to change the status of ethervendors back from ITP
(Intent to Package) to RFP (Request for Package), because this bug hasn't seen
any activity during the last 12 months.

If you are still interested in adopting ethervendors, please send a mail to
<control@bugs.debian.org> with:

retitle 522642 ITP: ethervendors -- Ehernet Vendor utils
 owner 522642 !
 thanks

However, it is not recommended to keep ITP for a long time without acting on
the package, as it might cause other prospective maintainers to refrain from
packaging that software. It is also a good idea to document your progress on
this ITP from time to time, by mailing <522642@bugs.debian.org>.

Thank you for your interest in Debian,
