Package: ltsp-server-standalone
Version: 5.1.10-2
Severity: wishlist
ltsp-server-standalone does depend on ndb-server AND on
nfs-kernel-server. However most people use only one of them and end up
with one useless server programm installed.
If you're using NFS this isn't that serious, since NBD has to be
explicitly configured in /etc/inetd.conf. But NBD-users (like me) do
have an unnecessary NFS-Server running.
Yes, I do realise that I could just install ltsp-server plus a dhcp
server but I do actually like the comfort of only one package, and I
don't see why both must be depencies.
Best regards
Alexander Kurtz

nbd also is needed to support NBD swap. the intention of the
ltsp-server-standalone package is to have *all* functionality available.

users using NBD root wouldn't strictly need nfs-kernel-server at all, i
want to have a single package to install to ensure that the defaults for
Debian's ltsp to work. i'd rather err on the side of
ltsp-server-standalone pulling in a little bit too much for non-default
scenarios than the other way around.
as you say, you can always install ltsp-server and whatever dependencies you
want.

Thanks for clearing that. I do agree with you that
ltsp-server-standalone should depend on both if it's purpose is to have
*all* functionality available.
However, the description of ltsp-server-standalone currently is:
This is the complete environment including a DHCP server to
bootstrap the thin-clients.
It ensures that remote sound using pulseaudio and remote device
access using ltspfs is also available.
LTSP stands for 'Linux Terminal Server Project'.
Perhaps one could change the second paragraph to something like:
It ensures that *all* functionality including remote sound using
pulseaudio and remote device access using ltspfs is also available.
or similiar, just to clearify this...
Best regards

changed the description to:
This is a complete LTSP server environment with all LTSP server features
including a DHCP server, remote device access using ltspfs, remote sound using
pulseaudio, network swap using NBD and more.
committed to bzr, and should be included in the next upload.
