Subject: evolution: Segmentation fault on startup
Date: Mon, 30 Mar 2009 10:18:54 -0500
Package: evolution
Version: 2.24.5-2
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

I recently upgraded from 2.22.3.1-1 to 2.24.5-2, but Evolution has been
working OK for the past few days since the upgrade.

Today while clicking on an IMAP folder Evolution segfaulted (and will no
longer start without segfaulting).

Backtrace follows:

I had the same problem and solved it by downgrading the sqlite3 packages
(libsqlite3-0 and sqlite3) that were upgraded today.

Did not help: I downgraded to libsqlite3-0_3.6.11-3, still evolution
does not start. However, another box that has this package installed
and has not crashed (yet). There might be some other package involved
too. Any dependencies that were recently upgraded (last two days)?

OK, that was a help. While downgrading sqlite to any of 3.6.11-* didn't
help me, downgrading to 3.5.9-6 did sort the problem out and I am now
able to get back into my e-mail...

Cannot try downgrading to 3.6.9-6. This would remove:

epiphany-browser epiphany-gecko galeon gnome-app-install gnome-core
gnome-office iceweasel python-gtkmozembed xulrunner-1.9
xulrunner-1.9-gnome-support yelp

for me :-(

Glad that it works for you. Any other package in the evolution
dependencies that was upgraded the last two days? On the box still
running with 3.6.11-3 installed, I urgently need evo running, so I
cannot restart it to check if it crashes too. Anybody can help on recent
updates for evo dependencies?

Package: evolution
Version: 2.24.5-2
Severity: normal

I'll add that I have this issue as well and had to force install sqlite3 and
libsqlite3-0 3.5.9-6 to get it to work again.

Sounds interesting. I have two idea. First is to be sure that evolution
is built with the new, 3.6.11-4 version of sqlite3.
Also I have just uploaded sqlite3 version 3.6.12-1 , it fixes several
bugs. Try evolution with this version as well.

Hi!

From reading the sources and such, it looks like rebuilding evolution against
the new version will make it work.
This points towards a broken abi, as Adeodato mentions in the bug report.

by uploading a package with the same package name and a higher version, you
basically promise that all existing applications will continue running
smoothly without rebuilding.
If rebuilding evolution against the new sqlite3, there is more grounds to
think that the bug adeodato filed against sqlite3 is right, and that this is
just a even more subtle case of http://bugs.debian.org:80/cgi-
bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=478337

From ICQ and from the preferences menu inside Flash 94 you have to forward to

Hi,

For me ( http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=577570 ) downgrading
to 3.5.9-6 worked also.

Here - in the hope this is helpful for others - what I did in detail:

  wget

  dpkg -i libsqlite3-0_3.5.9-6_i386.deb
