Package: linux-image-2.6-amd64
Version: 2.6.26+17
Severity: normal

Description:
After installing Lenny as well after upgrading from Etch the system
spontanously crashes. May correlate with this kernel bug, although
this bug also seems to occur without crashing the system. Anyway,
using option acpi=off the system is stable (so far).

Hi,
Sorry for the late followup.

The next release of Debian (6.0, code name Squeeze) will be based
on 2.6.32. Please test the current 2.6.32 from unstable/testing and tell
us whether the systems runs stable with ACPI enabled. If not, we
should report it upstream to the kernel.org developers.

The 2.6.32 kernel is available from packages.debian.org and can
be installed in both Debian stable, testing and unstable
installations.

Thanks,
        Moritz

Hi David,

Sorry for the long silence.

That's worrying. Basic questions:

 - do I understand correctly that this is reproducible when using a
normal workload for a short time in lenny and never occured in etch?

 - have you tried a kernel from squeeze or sid? If so, was the behavior
   any different?

 - where a BUG appears in the kernel logs, is the backtrace always the
   same?

 - how have you been coping all this time? :) Have you been using the
lenny kernel with acpi disabled? If so, has that been working ok?

 - could you attach the full output of "dmesg" soon after booting (or
lacking that, kernel output from /var/log/kern.log* from the start
of a boot with the failing kernel)? That would tell us something
about the hardware and how the kernel understands it.

Thanks for reporting, and sorry to have taken so long to get to this.

Regards,
Jonathan
