Subject: live-initramfs: panics when no ethernet is found
Date: Fri, 13 Feb 2009 19:16:40 +0100
Package: live-initramfs
Version: 1.156.1-1
Severity: normal

Hello

doing http netboot with an ethernet card that the kernel does not
recognize results in

kernel panic (not syncing): attempted to kill init

Previously I have seen some nice explanation with AA debian logo but no
more.

Thanks

Michal

Greetings,

Could you paste a sample of your boot line?

Also did you try with an ip address instead of a url name?

Thanks.

I always use server IP.

LABEL http
        MENU LABEL Start Debian Live
        kernel vmlinuz1
        append initrd=initrd1.img boot=live xdebconf g username=ghost
hostname=debian-ghost union=aufs quickreboot httpfs=http://<server
ip>/filesystem.squashfs vga=792 splash quiet

I am not sure what the g is for - probably a result of replacing
something in an imperfect way.

Thanks

Michal

with select_eth_device in place, it gives enough output when using
netboot to see, what was the failing cause (no link or unsupported card,
etc.), closing.
