Package: amule
Version: 2.2.1-1
Severity: normal
Hello,
thank you for all your work like packaging this free software, which
unfortunately has no gui-tweak to turn the ip2country-feature on and
*off* as far as I see. It seems to be a compiletime option only and
certainly those feeling themselves as humans could compile it
themselves, but as Debian has political guidelines (on foundation day,
Ian might have had an e.g. irish ID, Deborah might "be" whatever, but
Debian doesn't have an irish-whatever double-flag, but
http://www.debian.org/social_contract instead).
Certainly Geoip might be usefull for secret services and military
purposes, for future "ethnical" cleansings of IT-Areas or stuff (don't
let those download or whatever), but these kids in the net screaming how
nicely colourful these flags are and that they feel soo happy to see
their country flags, die in the wars worldwide and I don't particularly
want to support this by silence.
I think/ guess, the ip-areas are given away by organizations or
companies (like global providers or whoever is sending staff there)
after discussing it on meetings and I don't know and don't care whether
there are ip-addresses available for e.g. Palestine or Kurdistan - this
might offend others then anyway and is not desirable IMHO, but
nationalizating Users (this is not to point out where they grew up and which climate there was then, but which army they pay taxes and blood for) is "geistige Mobilmachung"-moral war preparation and I am fed up with this in germany already and don't want it here.
This is why this report is done - no need to reply.
Thanks for listening.
Sincerely,
Marco Hoffmann

Please explain to me how aMule, licensed under the GPL, fails to comply
with DFSG 5:
--
5. No Discrimination Against Persons or Groups
The license must not discriminate against any person or group of
persons.
--
Unless you can claim that the GPL is discriminating against any person
or group of persons, I call your "bug" plain FUD, and a total shameful
missuse of the bug report system for propaganda.
Please stick to using the bug report system for bugs in the software,
not to press your views about political or geographical issues onto
people. You're wasting everyone's time.

I agree with Kry this is a far too biased view to even be considered. Closing.
