Subject: libapache2-mod-php5: asks for dbase support for php5, on mod-php5 and php5-cli

Package: libapache2-mod-php5
Severity: normal

Hi

For a GUL's list question, I came to discover that PHP5 no longer supports the dynamic module for dbase (dbase.so) for some reason it's no longer supported, only static compile is available, would it be possible to add the "--enable-dbase" to the configuration on both php5-cli and libapache2-mod-php5 ?? is there any know problem with that or just nobody has asked for it ??

Regards !
Max

The php-db issue has already been reported in #504881; as for building
the dbase extension please refer to #341420 (and take a look at the
existing reports before filing a new one next time, thanks).

Hi Raphael

Correct me if I'm wrong, Debian is distributing those "unlicensed"
files anyway, isn't that the same problem ?? Debian is potentially
violating it anyway.

Thanks for your comments, I actually made a search of the bugs, but
smartly enough I didn't checked php5, but libapache2-mod-php5 and
php5-cli :), sorry.

I wrote to the author too, to know if he's willing to change license,
if he's willing I will send a comment to the correct bug.

Max

I just re-read the original licence information and noticed the following:

> Permission is granted to *distribute* and use the *sourc*e,
> documentation files and/or compiled binaries associated with dbf
> *for non-commercial use*. No charges may be made for such
> distributions.

So I'm now using the old bug to track the DFSG-freeness problems, as
it contains the old licence information.
