Subject: banshee is unable to manage my files on the ipod
Date: Thu, 25 Sep 2008 11:19:49 -0300
Package: banshee
Version: 1.2.1-3
Severity: normal
I tried banshee 1.0, 1.2 and 1.4 (custom built package). I have an
ipod nano, and when I try to copy files to it, even though banshee
says it copied the files, and then says it is sync'ing, no files show
up on the ipod.
I tried hipo, but it is buggy as hell; gtkpod works just fine.
Thanks,

Please file a bug with the upstream Banshee bug tracker, and post a link
to it here - this seems like a bug with Banshee rather than with the
packaging, and they're much better equipped to isolate and fix that kind
of bug than we are in the packaging team (for one, I don't own an iPod!)

You could perhaps forward the bug there? I had the impression that was
one of the maintainers' duty, to avoid making the user interact with all
the upstream bug trackers of the software they use?

If we're unable to reproduce a software problem ourselves, then the only
purpose we would serve is as middle-men, or first-line technical
support: slowing things down and relaying only partially correct
information in both directions. Where a problem is reproducible, we
would usually deal with upstream ourselves, but it frustrates upstream
as much as anyone if the person reporting the bug can't help isolate it.
Of course, if you want to mail one of us an iPod, then we might be in a
better situation to reproduce the problem & cooperate with upstream.

I see this problem too. For a more thorough description, consult:

still the F09/f09 issue)

Bug acknowledged by developer.
(Sun, 31 Jul 2011 20:09:05 GMT) (full text, mbox, link).
These bugs were filed on a version of Banshee that still used the
ipod-sharp/podsleuth backend. This backend has been deprecated since version
1.7.5, and considering how different the two backends are, it is quite likely
that the bugs that applied previous either apply differently or do not apply at
all with the current libgpod backend. Hence, I'm closing all of these bugs.
If you still experience these issues with a current version of Banshee, please
file a new bug.
