[Message part 1 (text/plain, inline)]
Package: virtualbox-ose
Version: 1.6.2-dfsg-4
Severity: normal

Select VM:

    Settings => CD/DVD-ROM
    [x] Host CD/DVD Drive [pulldown menu]

The [pulldown menu] does not list any devices. However the Debian
installer had put this to /etc/fstab

    /dev/scd0       /media/cdrom0   udf,iso9660 user,noauto,noatime,nodiratime 0 0

The DVD can be mounted/umounted normally on the host system. Further information:

    found, all possible attributes in the udev rules key format.
    A rule to match, can be composed by the attributes of the device
    and the attributes from one single parent device.

thanks

The reason for the bug was revealed from the syslog:

  kernel: [78521.748563] hald[12563]: segfault at 0 ip 410377 sp 7fff2be745e0 error 4 in hald[400000+4d000]

Tracing with:

  $ lshal
  Could not initialise connection to hald.
  Normally this means the HAL daemon (hald) is not running or not ready.

and trying to restart hal service did not succeed. Reason unknown.
Reinstalling "hal" package restored system.

Virtualbox need hald to query the devices. Closing and changed to
enhancement request at http://www.virtualbox.org/ticket/1958

Hello,

> information:
Virtualbox can only use this CD if it is not yet mounted. When the disk is
umounted it works flawlessly.

Can you please test and verify?

Greetings
