Message #5 received at submit@bugs.debian.org (full text, mbox, reply):
Package: gnome-applets
Version: 2.22.3-1
Severity: normal
I've got a setup where a single nVidia graphics card is connected to a
monitor thru a VGA port and to a TV thru a TVout port. The monitor is on
X Screen 0 and the TV on X Screen 1 ( this setup is called 'multiple X
screens' setup in nvidia-settings configuration manager )
There's a slight problem with Gnome Volume Applet in this setup: if I
am on the TV, and I right click on it and select 'Preferences', the
preferences dialog appears on the monitor, not on the TV. Seems like it
always wants to appear on X Screen 0 no matter from where it was
launched.
Other dialogs ( like for example the 'Open Volume Control' dialog of the
very same Gnome Volume Applet ) correctly appear on the screen they were
launched on.

thanks
Leszek,
I seem unable to reproduce this on my local machine, perhaps you can
include your xorg.conf and rephrase how exactly is your setup? And maybe
even list where are your panels and where are you launching the volume
applet?.
I haven't been able to reproduce what you see using my intel card (on
the laptop + external monitor), neither I have been able to find any
"suspicious" code, on a quick check. I suspect it might be a driver bug
given that you are using nvidia...
greetings

Here's another guy who's having similar issues, also on nVidia:
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=556178
I also have a laptop with Intel, let me try to reproduce it there...

Well, indeed, if I connect my intel 965GM laptop to a monitor and clone my
internal display with
xrandr --output LVDS --auto
xrandr --output VGA --auto --same-as LVDS
then the popups behave correctly on both screens. If however I connect my
nVidia 7100 desktop to a TV and use the following xorg ( which is BTW
automatically produced by nvidia-settings )

then the bug happens.
So you say the nvidia driver displays some popups on the correct screen, and
others always on screen 0?
hard to believe the driver does that...
