Message #5 received at submit@bugs.debian.org (full text, mbox, reply):
Package: fetchmail
Version: 5.1.2-1
I submit this one once again - I am not sure if I got exim working, so
I installed smail again....
I get from time to time an endless row of these error messages:
errorfetchmail: SIGPIPE thrown from an MDA or a stream socket
It seems that it may have something to do with (one of) the messages
to be fetched, because if I in some way or another manage to remove
the mails from the server fetchmail works OK after that. Sometimes I
have managed to avoid the problem by issuing a command like
"fetchmail -n".
I am using bleeding edge potato, but I think this problem occured in
stable, too (not sure). At present the kernel version is 1.2.12, but
the problem occured earlier, too.
My libc6 version is 2.1.2-9
The mail is being fetched from a Windows NT server.
vsl159:(~) % fetchmail -V
This is fetchmail release 5.1.2+NTLM+SDPS+NLS
Linux vsl159.energy.sintef.no 2.2.12 #3 SMP Tue Oct 26 12:12:00 CEST 1999 i686 unknown
Taking options from command line and /home/vsl159/a/janaf/.fetchmailrc
Idfile is /home/vsl159/a/janaf/.fetchids
Fetchmail will forward misaddressed multidrop messages to janaf.
Options for retrieving from EFINET/jaf/janaf@efisms.efi.sintef.no:
True name of server is efisms.efi.sintef.no.
Protocol is POP3.
Server nonresponse timeout is 300 seconds (default).
Default mailbox selected.
Only new messages will be retrieved (--all off).
Fetched messages will not be kept on the server (--keep off).
Old messages will not be flushed before message retrieval (--flush off).
Rewrite of server-local addresses is enabled (--norewrite off).
Carriage-return stripping is enabled (stripcr on).
Carriage-return forcing is disabled (forcecr off).
Interpretation of Content-Transfer-Encoding is enabled (pass8bits off).
MIME decoding is disabled (mimedecode off).
Nonempty Status lines will be kept (dropstatus off)
Messages will be delivered with "/usr/sbin/exim -oem janaf".
Recognized listener spam block responses are: 571 550 501 554
Single-drop mode: 1 local name(s) recognized.
No UIDs saved from this host.
Here is my .fetchmailrc:
poll efisms.efi.sintef.no protocol POP3 username EFINET/jaf/janaf password XXXXXX mda "/usr/sbin/exim -oem janaf"
I have used mda "/usr/sbin/smail -oem janaf" up to today, and converted
to exim to see if that might correct the problem (wild guess :-)
The error message. (I typed "fetchmail -a -vv" this time):
