I understand what you mean now - the fix is to update
audacious-plugins to 1.5.1 to match audacious.
This should be fixed in the "depends" field of the audacious package.
Note that in 'testing', audacious-plugins 1.5.1 isn't available while
audacious-1.5.1 is the only one available, and the two don't play
nicely together.

thanks
Dear William,
I can also confirm that the combination of Audacious 1.5.1-1 and the
plugins 1.5.0-2 will not be able to play sound (at least with alsa and
pulseaudio).
Audacious currently depends on audacious-plugins (>= 1.5.0), which does
not prevent this bad combination to be installed. It should therefore
depend on audacious-plugins (>= 1.5.1).
Have a nice day,

I am aware of this, but have been busy and unable to get a fix out until
tonight. Lenny's audacious is still broken because of FTBFS on ia64
anyway, which will be fixed tomorrow once I get a replacement power
supply for my ia64 box installed.

...and it also needs to depend on the correct version of libaudid3tag1
and libaudclient1.
Currently the binary package audacious_1.5.1-2_i386.deb depends on
versions 1.5.1 of the above libraries instead of 1.5.1-2, making the
upgrade impossible. After manually changing the control file the package
installs fine.
