Hi,
I don't want to maintain aterm any longer as it has several
bugs, uncoorparative upstream developers, it is basically
superseded by urxvt and does not support UTF-8. Though it
still has a pretty huge user base.

Description: Afterstep XVT - a VT102 emulator for the X window system
Aterm is a colour vt102 terminal emulator, based on rxvt 2.4.8 with
some additions of fast transparency, intended as an xterm replacement
for users who do not require features such as Tektronix 4014
emulation and toolkit-style configurability. As a result, aterm uses
much less swap space -- a significant advantage on a machine serving
many X sessions. It was created with AfterStep Window Manager users
in mind, but is not tied to any libraries, and can be used anywhere.

If you want to be the new maintainer, please take it -- see
http://www.debian.org/devel/wnpp/index.html#howto-o for detailed
instructions how to adopt a package properly.

Kind regards
Nico

Hi,

I'm looking to contribute more effectively with Debian and then I saw
aterm as an orphaned package. I use gnome-terminal as my daily terminal
to work but when GNOME is not installed I prefer to use aterm, so I've
interest to maintain that package.

Hi,

This is an automatic email to change the status of aterm back from ITA
(Intent to Adopt) to O (Orphaned), because this bug hasn't seen any activity
during the last 6 months.

If you are still interested in adopting aterm, please send a mail to
<control@bugs.debian.org> with:

retitle 476707 ITA: aterm -- Afterstep XVT - a VT102 emulator for the X window system
 owner 476707 !
 thanks

However, it is not recommended to keep ITA for a long time without acting on
the package, as it might cause other prospective maintainers to refrain from
adopting the package. It is also a good idea to document your progress on this
ITA from time to time, by mailing <476707@bugs.debian.org>.

Thank you for your interest in Debian,

Subject: Requesting removal of aterm from Debian?
Date: Mon, 27 May 2013 13:10:37 +0200
Hi,

I suggest to remove aterm from Debian:

* Orphaned since 2008
* No more upstream-development (Upstream writes[1]: "aterm is
deprecated and in a maintenance mode only; there will be no further
  updates.")
* No UTF-8 or Unicode support
* Upstream recommends[1] to use rxvt-unicode instead (which is what
  replaced aterm for me, too)

The only reason which prevented me from filing the removal request
immediately is aterm's Popcon values[2], which raised from 600 to 1000
half a year ago, after steadily going down for years.

Hello

I was very busy and could not find time for aterm.
If you believe there is a strong enough demand for aterm, I can try to
maintain it.

It has been some time since I wanted to get involved in debian.
