Subject: gpm: missing LSB dependency in initscript
Date: Thu, 10 Apr 2008 23:16:35 +0200
Package: gpm
Version: 1.20.3~pre3-3
Severity: important
User: initscripts-ng-devel@lists.alioth.debian.org
Usertags: missing-dependency

Hello,

I've just enabled dependency based ordering of the initscripts via
insserv. Since this change, gpm fails to stop at shutdown process: it is
already stopped by the sendsigs, and /var is not available any longer.

This can simply be fixed by adding a dependency on $remote_fs to both
Required-Start and Required-Stop.

Please see the Petter Reinholdtsens comments on the initscripts-ng-devel
mailinglist regarding this issue:
http://lists.alioth.debian.org/pipermail/initscripts-ng-devel/2008-April/000528.html

greetings,
 jonas

Hmmm, not wanting to sound rude but, there was no anouncement for this
NMU, the change was trivial and we could have uploaded this ourselves,
but I don't really see the point in that or this NMU, given that the
packages has an RC bug which will prevent it to migrate to testing
anyway.

guillem

That is the idea behind the 0-day NMU policy.

> the change was trivial and we could have uploaded this ourselves,

But you didn't. And the bug is not trivial in its effects, as it prevents the
dependency-based init script ordering to work properly, and gpm is a fairly
common package.

That is not correct as far as I can tell. The package will migrate just fine
if nothing else happens.
