*** Please type your report below this line ***
When the machine starts you can read:

bogl_init failed: EXPLODE

screen init failed

And that's it, usplash doesn't work. But is only in this machine a DELL
Inspiron 1420 with an Intel mobile GM965/GL960 graphics chipset. I also have
a COMPAQ Presario SR1717LA Desktop in which usplash works fine.

The same happens when I run "usplash -c" from the command line.

When I remove the vga=791 option from the kernel in grub's menu.lst the
debian-theme works, but the fingerprint-theme (
http://u-fingerprint.sourceforge.net/) still gives the same error.

Package: usplash
Version: 0.5.19-3
Severity: normal

I can confirm this problem.

Usplash will work ONLY when all parameters to the kernel line are disabled - means no vga=
line for me if I want usplash.

Does not appear to be video chip specific, since have the same problem on another machine with
radeon chipset. (this one is a K8M800 chipset).

Likely a problem with something else, (but I cannot isolate the issue) since splashy too will not
work on both the systems. (getting a splashy_start_splashy() error 3).

Experienced the same problem here. Intel 945GM graphic chipset, 1280x800 widecreen.
Usplash not working if I add any "vga=XXX" parameter to kernel boot.
Without it works fine.

Hi there,

update "/etc/usplash.conf" to your needs!

If you use e.g. "vga=788" in "/boot/grup/menu.lst", then you need to
add:

snip ==>
xres=800
yres=600
<== snap

to your "/etc/usplash.conf". Don't forget to execute "update-initramf
-u" and a proper reboot afterwards.

-
Kind regards
Frank

I also saw this problem.
I use the "GRUB_GFXMODE" option at /etc/default/grub and "set
gfxpayload=keep" at etc/grub/00_header to configure the boot
resolution. I don't have any extra lines at grub's kernel command.
Frank Neumann's solution resolved this issue for me. The splash screen
disappears quickly afterwards but that appears to be a different bug.

Regards,
Pitxyoki
